Welcome to KSC Patrachar Open School for information about NIOS TMA for class 12th For students enrolled in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). For all students with Nios Registration in class 12th the Tutor-Marked Assignment (TMA) is an essential part of the examination process. It is an internal assessment of students by the nios board where the students have to download the TMA from the Nios official website, solve it and write the answers on register papers. Every student must paste the TMA slip at the top of the sheet where the answers are written, then create a subject-wise PDF of the solved TMA and upload it to the Student Dashboard.
Many Class 12th students are confused about what TMA is, how to write it, why it is necessary, and how much it affects marks. Since NIOS follows an open learning system, TMA helps students learn in a practical and meaningful way. Completing the TMA on time also increases the total marks and improves the overall result.
TMA stands for Tutor Marked Assignment. It is a set of questions given by NIOS for each subject. Students must write the answers in their own handwriting in the official assignment sheet and submit them before the last date. TMAs are checked by the study centre or NIOS evaluator, and marks are added to the final result.
TMA is designed to help students better understand the concepts, revise their lessons, and prepare for the main exams.
Yes, for most students, TMA is compulsory. If a student fails to submit the TMA, they may lose 20 marks in each subject. Even though exams are the central part, TMA can improve students’ final results.
Each subject TMA carries 20% weightage of the total marks.
Example:
If a subject has 100 marks, 20 marks come from the TMA and 80 marks from the written exam.
So even if your exam marks are average, a strong TMA can help you score higher. For example, a student scoring 55 in the exam and 18 in TMA gets 73, which is much better than only exam marks.
NIOS uploads the TMA question papers every year on its official website under the “Student Section” or “Assignment” section. Students can download the TMA for the subjects they have selected.
Writing a TMA is not difficult if you follow a straightforward method. Here are some tips:
NIOS provides a printed answer sheet format. Students must use it, not regular notebooks.
Avoiding these mistakes can make a big difference in marks.
NIOS sets a fixed deadline for each term. For April exams, submissions occur between December and February. For October exams, submissions occur between June and August. The exact date may change every year. After writing the TMA students must make the PDF of all subjects assignments and upload these PDF to Students portal. Students can login the student portal by logging on Nios online admission Student portal.
ubmitting the TMA before the last date is essential. Late submissions are commonly not accepted.
Many students think TMA is only for marks, but it has more benefits:
Some colleges require a minimum percentage for admission. TMA marks can help a student reach that cutoff.
Yes. Since TMA gives 20 marks per subject, it is an easy way to boost scores. Even if a student gets average marks in the written exam, a strong TMA score can make the final result much better.
If the TMA marks are very low or the student fails to submit, the board will give minimum marks (usually 7-8). But this may affect the total score. So it is better to complete the TMA properly and submit it.
